GOSH....

HOW IS THIS QUESTION GOING TO BE RECIEVED?

IT IS MORE THAN CONTRITE....MORE THAN MIND BLOWING AND JUST ABOUT TO HAVE MY HEAD BITTEN OFF BY ALL IN BLOGLAND.

WAS GOD A SPACEMAN?

With all Religions, beliefs we all hold our OWN GOD...no matter what his name..he is basically HOLY above all others..

Come on....WE ARE NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL....there has to be ANOTHER HIGHER THAN OURSELVES even be it a diety to whom we look to, uphold and respect.

I have for years wanted to pose this question to people, and feel that now I am among friends whom will take this as a QUESTION.

The Pyramids.....How were they formed? Who gave the technology? in either Egypt or Peru.
This is a question unanswerable for thousands of years.

WHY.....LOOK AT PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD....WHY DO THEY LOOK DIFFERENT?
Nordic are Blonde.....African are dark skinned....Asian have (sorry) slit eyes...

YES....hereditory, evoltutionary....but....if we did evolve from the same gendre..WHY?

Monkeys, Apes, preportedly our ancestors do not have these traits!!

There is much to be answered about the UNIVERSE we live in....

Even today they say WATER ON THE MOON!!!

But I have it in my brain.....the Moon is HOLLOW.....

Astronomy data indicates that the internal regions of the Moon are less dense than the outer, giving rise to the inevitable but outrageous speculation that it could be hollow.

It does not orbit the Earth as a normal moon but stays 'same side on' WHY?

So let us now deviate from science....and go back to Biblical...

Where did we come from?

It really is IMPOSSIBLE that we evolved from apes....if we did....why are apes still about?...WHY ARE THEY NOT BLONDE, DARK AND HAVE 'SLANTING EYES'....Monkeys/Apes...do not live in NORTHERN REGIONS soooo ok, we migrated?

THE BURNING BUSH ....

Well we all are aware that ANY version of the Bible is subject to mis-interpretation through translation over the years and 'lost' language.

BURNING BUSH....could that mean a plant? or a mountain? Could it be a volcano or an ACTUAL FIRE OF VEGETATION?...Could it be that was combustion (as we know today). A question we can not answer.

I am sure you all know them...and even given your diverse religions are a CODE you live with.

THESE WERE CARVED IN STONE....

In stone they should always be as we are NOT A DIETY TO OURSELVES.

But it is a thought....HOW WAS THIS CARVED INTO STONE...WAS IT LASER?

We can all interpret the Bible or whatever Holy Book we cherish....but if you LOOK...there are many discrepancies within itself.....or it's teachings....THAT IS DUE I BELIEVE TO TRANSLATION.

when younger i never thought about your question 'who is god', I just accepted that there was this mysterious being that looked over us all.

After conciously starting my spiritual journey afew years ago, I realised that (not to put other religions down) basically there is universal energy ie., it lives in me and you, is comprises of love and light.

In my mind it's all down to interepation (spelling sorry) sometimes people need to focus on an image, or deity or symbol and that's fine, that channels their energy to source.

I have seen in meditation all religions exist on the otherside, it's to the person concerned it's their reality.

There have been prophets who have lived on earth, they have managed to tap into source, and have channeled information to us all, in all races. It's our intrepation of the sources message.

I don't believe that 'God' judges, there is only love and it's unconditionally, i know that we judge our actions over our life time at passing in our life review. Spiritualisim teaches this.

All wars have been faught over religion, man's thoughts on what god thinks, i believe the only core thing to understand is love.

I do think source is part of everyone, who ever a person worships, this energy is part of the earth, the universe and beyond.

Evloution happened, evidence is apparent with the fossils of the dinosaurs and other things. This makes sense to me logically.

There is more strange things out there such as crop circles which i believe are real, not by outside influence, I think they are the universal energy giving us a message. What these messages are? again down to interpreation. As for the Egyptians, my favourite they also as with many civiliations tapped into source, this is why alot of their buildings/pyramids mirrored, the same type of deities etc., which also explains their leap forward in technology. We are also leaping forward with technology, just look over the past 50 odd years?

This is a huge subject I don't think I can put everything down in one response!

    an energy being yes, oh most definately a prophet, exactly how I feel, if we live our lives with love in our hearts we are on the light path and right path.
    
    well, i do think somethings will be open to us when we reach the spirit realm, sometimes it's not always for us to know the full details until we are ready.
    
    I do know, connecting with spirit in the spirit realm, there is nothing like it. Until it is experienced for self, you can't really explain. My experiences are mine alone, same as yours are yours alone, your evidence. For self to know - the knowing. That is how it has been for many many thousands of years.
    
    There is a film I don't know whether you have seen this, it has Jody Foster it's called Contact. It's about astronomy, Jody's boyfriend in the film is a preacher man. She has a science head, he walking his path. at the end after alot has happened (it's a long film) Jody has to explain to a court of law what happened, it sounds rediculous, her speach is amazing.

I don't come from any formal religious background, and so I see God as a 'higher energy/source' available for anyone of us to tap into.

Just to say two things, in response to your inquisitive blog:

Regarding the Bible: I would suggest looking at different translations to compare what each says about parts you're questioning about. It'll be worth a look to try to understand the language and, hopefully, understand what's being said better.

Regarding the 'golden rule': I would suggest that Christianity is more than a moral code. To quote Vince Anderson: 'Most religions talk about man becoming divine; in Christianity, the divine became man'.

  We are open to debate.....and I actually disagree with your feelings that man will become divine...or vice versa.
  
  Christianity HAS TO BE A MORAL CODE same as the Quoran etc we can not be beholden only to ourselves.
  
  I still feel that there are 'forces' in the Universe and that we are not alone and that God could possibly have come from another planet.

        I think Pauline we all see life in different ways
        and this must be respected.
        The universe is to vast and too awesome to just bring it
        down to humankinds logocal thinking...
        Supernatural is exactly that more than natural!!
        Just contimplating the possibility of such advanced
        extraterrestrials appears to raise additional uncomfortable questions for religion.

        I feel extraterrestrial... it explains so much regarding
        all the supernatural and phenomena we can not comprehend.
        The worlds main faiths were all founded in the pre- scientific era when earth was widely believed to be the centre of the universe and humankind at the principle of creation.
        Our solar sytem is relatively young compared with the universe overall, any alien civilization that researchers
        might discover is likely to be much older and presumably
        wiser then ours.
        If he is within our mind... why...???
        Influence from lifes history... our yearning for
        wanting a devine... someone to turn too... so many reasons Pauline... and all will have an answer to
        sadisfy needs and the so called feeling many encounter
        they have experienced... regarding the encounter with God... via many stories I hear... All of which I feel
        is down to the supernatural phenomena we do not fully

Aaargh, too many questions! I'll address some of them.

Anthropological studies show 2 primary reasons why humans created the idea of gods:

1. To keep order because of a higher power when we 1st came together in groups larger than an extended family

2. To provide a reward for living a hard life and to diminish the fear of death.

I don't see why there should be a power higher than ourselves. Are not amazing enough? Douglas Adams said: "Is it not enough that our garden is beautiful? Must we also think there are fairies in it"?

It is possible that aliens have come to earth, but I am highly skeptical of this.

Evolution caused different looking people - do you doubt this? We didn't evolve from apes, but we do share a common ancestor with apes. Spreading to different climates made us acclimatise, hence the variations.

There are many explanations for the burning bush, including spontaneous fire, halucination, drugs and to my mind the most likely one: someone made it up.

The “carving in stone” of the commandments seems like a metaphor for importance to me rather than a literal meaning.

No “appeal to authority” is required for rules. We can use basic human rights and simple non-god-derived moral principles to make rules: stealing is wrong, murder is wrong, etc.

I think this might have been better as several posts as I can see a discussion leading from this being somewhat unwieldy!

  Numbers one and two....I find difficulty in answering bar the reason I gave on not OURSELVES BEING THE HIGHEST DIETY....Would we not be a 'smug' person? Yes we are already, but in time of trouble do we look to ourselves or do we look outside of?
  
  We all think of UFO's and I suspect that most people are now having a slight if not 'pragmatic' belief.
  
  Evolution....wow...you agree with me!!! No we did not evolve from apes or monkeys...but....perhaps we are a 'by-shoot' such as other mammals? Why do dolphins and whales remain in the sea when they are ir breathing?

The theory of evolution is like saying that millions of years ago there was an iron ore mine,then one day wind blew and iron ore was thrown in a volcanic fire 1000 miles away.Then there was an aluminium mine ans a titanium mine nearby.One day wind blew and iron titanium and aluminium were somehow extracted.Another million years passed by and the three metals somehow blended and an alloy was formed.Then someday,all ofa sudden from an underground oii will,plastics started to ooze out,and yes also copper came from somewhere.
Then one day cotton itself was woven into fabric by evolution.Milloins of years passed and one day someone found a Boeing 747 jumbo jet in their backyard.But nobody built the plane,it all happened due to billions of years of evolution.
As eveidence of the fact that Boeing 747 evolved from penguins,i say that there is copper,titanium,aluminium,hydro carbons,cotton and iron all available on earth.Likewise there are flying creatures,such as the dragon fly and the pigeons.Jet planes were first born by the interbreeding of dragon fly and pigeons,with a hint of penguins.

        Actually it explains a lot Pauline.The theory of evolution,and the big bang theory say that things happened on their own,and no superior diety ever intruded in creation.That means whtever happens to matter in due course of time will create something new and complex.
        My DVDs have accumulated dust,been scratched,the cover has faded out,the movies inside too have developed problems,as i cant watch them with same clarity as i could when the DVDs were new.That means something is happening to them,and my DVDs are changing into something else.
        Now if i pour some acids,some charcoal and some sand and bury them underwater for extended period of time.Will there be something totally new and complex created by doing this? Or intelligent?
        Well,if i bury movies like "The matrix" , "Ninja Turtles" and Betty boop,can i expect "Matrix ninjaturtle boop" to come out of the jar after 1 billion years?

    I am not saying there was no evolution.It is an on going process,but i cannot digest the idea that it was, and is an unguided process.
    Out of 92 elements in the periodic table,more or less 28 constitute human body.Thats 28 factorial,or 3.04888345 × 10 exponent 29 probabilities or possible combinations.But how we ended up with only the most complex combinations or chemicals,and dont have billions of other possible combinations or chemicals in us.
    Also why why we ended up with only 28 elements in our body,and not all 92 or atlest half of the periodic table.Unless somebody was guiding the process.
    The theory of evolution makes a lot of sense,but the process not being planned or guided by a diety or superior being with more knowledge than us,does not make sense.
    100 years from now,sombody discovers the first air plane made by right bros or wright bros,and then the airbus a-300 is discovered,then the discoverer can assume that the evolution from the glider to the a-300 happened on it's own.But i fail to see that such an assumption will be acceptable.

        At least it makes more sense when it is called a guided evolution.Not just evolution.Since reading that FSM thing,my mind keeps getting stuck in "his noodly appendages" ,so never mind my dry jokes over here.

    I agree the evolution (at least the evolution of the dead matter) is a fascinating theory but it is still just a theory with many blank spaces and ridiculous assumptions. The biggest of which, of course, is the beginning of life. I repeat, noone ever did and no scientists ever will create life out of dead matter because it is simply not possible. The life cannot be created from the matter. There must be spirit first, then there can be matter.

However, I have no time to read fairytales about our Earth's history, I'm only concerned about Truth. So I'm trying to read books that are closer to it. Of course, this may seem ridiculous to you, but for me nowadays science researches only dead matter (with the exception of open-minded scientists, many of them coming from Russia).         Evolution is called a "theory" it's true, but the evidence for it is so strong that it's as reliable as gravity. Even The Pope accepts it.
        
        You say you are "only concerned about Truth". Then how can you dismiss avenues which may contain truth without investigating them? Evolution is certainly true: those who look into it have no doubts on this, no matter how religious or spiritual they are. The only ones who doubt it are those who haven't looked into it.
        
        But if you choose to believe that you know better in a vacuum of information, that's up to you.

In this final report the Commission reiterates its prior conclusion of the interim report of February, 1998, namely, that the work of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) contains neither racial doctrine nor statements made for the purpose of insulting persons or groups of people because of their race, and which could therefore be called racist. In the opinion of the Commission, the collected works of Rudolf Steiner do contain a number of statements that, by today's standards, are of a discriminatory nature or could be experienced as discriminatory.
        
        In total the Commission examined and evaluated 245 quotations from the 89,000 page collected works of Rudolf Steiner, 145 of which were reported in the interim report. This is more than twenty times as many as the approximately one dozen statements that had been quoted in this discussion in the media about Anthroposophy. The great difference in the number of quotations is, by itself already, evidence of the fact that the debate about the question whether Anthroposophy embodies racism and racial discrimination has been conducted on the basis of grossly incomplete information. This incompleteness has led to a distorted picture in the negative sense of both Steiner's ideas and the reputation of the anthroposophical movement in Holland today.
        
        The conclusion of the Commission is that sixteen statements, if they were in public by a person on his or her own authority, could be a violation of the prohibition of racial discrimination under the Criminal Code of the Netherlands. The relevant article in the Criminal Code closely resembles article 1 of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. These sixteen statements are four more than the twelve that had been identified as discriminatory in the interim report. As is described in Steiner's autobiography, one of these had been experienced as offensive by a Jewish connection of Steiner even in his own time.
        
        The Commission finds again that any suggestion that racism is an inherent part of Anthroposophy, or that conceptually Steiner helped prepare the way for the holocaust, has proven to be categorically wrong. As a matter of fact, the investigation of the Commission shows that, beginning in the year 1900, he clearly spoke and wrote against the dangers of anti-Semitism, including in the periodical of a then existing German association against anti-Semitism existing at that time."
        
        Surely the conclusions of this thorough report would be more valid than your serveral misenterpreted sentences taken out of context. But I see you are not concerned about any serious discussion in this matter and you are content with populistic shouts. Well, have nice day!

        Yes I am a writer althoug only a few children's stories published in a magazine in the Shetlands.... (That is an Isle north of Scotland). I am more known for my illustrations to other's stories there.
        
        I would love to have something published in my own right other than a magazine....but sadly can't find anyone to take on.

I don't think humans have ever communicated with "God the creator" that I perceive.

Humans heve spoken to higher beings (either technologicaly or spiritually higher) that they have called God but I don't think they met "God the Creator".

This is going to get a bit weird now: I think we live inside God, everything we see around us is God. We are all parts of God.

If you look at a fractal you see it's shape but if you zoom in over and over it will eventually repeat that same shape. We are all part of a big Fractal. If you zoom in into our bodies we go through atoms to quarks and I believe it does not stop there, if you continue to zoom in you will find another universe, billions of them contained in each of us. And you can zoom in on them and it will repeat again endlessly.

Now if you zoom outwards and keep zooming out you will come back to us but keep zooming out and you will come to the next level of the fractal then if you keep on zooming out you will eventually come to God.

God is not male or female and was outside the physical. In my vision, one day God thought to experience the physical, so God created it's own physical form, an eternal infinite fractal.

Such a purity as God could not enter the physical without splitting it's divinity, such holyness can not exist without it's opposite or the Multiverse would be out of ballance so God became both "Good and Evil".

That is my conclusion: God is two sides of one coin, both Good and Evil. We are minute pieces of that whole until God decides the Physical should exist no longer and we all return to Spirit and unified divinity.

Who is God?
Its that "something" that always goes amiss in alll of our scientific discoveries,and all our theories that explain the things going on around us.
In Darwenian theory of evolution,there are many so called "missing links".Those missing links are "God".
Same for the big bang theory,all the einstenian equations that once explained billions of years of galactic eveolution,then again "missing links" were discovered.
Those missing links are "God"..One can argue that research is going on,and all will be explained shortly.Go back 100 years,same was said,and go forward 100 years,same will be said,as there will always be unexplained and unexplainable parts on out near perfect explainations of life,death,creation,annihilation and everything else.
I can go on all day on this,but i feel hungry and need a good meal

      It is also a learning curb in 'diplomacy' for whilst EVERYONE has the right to their opinion, and that should be allowed to be aired...topics should never be allowed to get to deep and to intense that they start to annoy people...and therefore 'diplomacy' has to come into it whereby you have to chose words and 'lighten' it up.

        That is very true-diplomacy and tact are true arts-I try to intervene in the "badgering,hectoring I'm right,you're wrong style" of arguments that some people enjoy.
        
        I say respect and accept a person's truth-however much it varies from your own-it is their truth and they have a right to believe and uphold it.

Phew! A few too many questions in one there, id have prefered to deal with them all one at a time.

But anyway, will start with the opening question of who is God if that helps.

To me God works alongside the Godess, as in nature every living thing needs a male and a femail to create life. Together the lord and lady create, provide and continue to give life to this Earth that we are just a small part of.

Now, i dont believe the God and Godess are two beings that live in the heavens above, but are energies here upon this Earth, they keep the cycle of life turning, constantly renewing life itself through their energy. I also believe we should totaly respect the cycle of life that they constantly renew, aim to live our lives respecting nature, going about our lives avoiding causing harm as best we possibly can and give back to the Earth when we take out from it.

I believe we can connect with the energy of the god and the godess if we tune ourselves into that energy be it through meditation, ritual or any other form of prayer that each individual feels works for them.

Thats just a little bit of my personal opinion though. I follow a Pagan pathway which is not a religion but a faith, a belief which is as old as the Earth itself.

Now, the burning bush. Well there is scientific evidence that in certain parts of the world there are plants that spontainiously combust which does make a little more sense to me. As for written tablets of stone with laws to follow, well in my opinion thats just what they are, laws made by man to follow to keep society in order, stop total anarchy and chaos happening. I do not for a minute believe they are the words of a God.

To me, the words of the God and the Godess are in nature, we see them every day if only we look, but we all have that choice and freedom to do so if we wish.

  Yes to me as well....as follow the Pagan path....the God and Goddess are the givers of life to this Earth same as we observe the elements and call upon them in our rituals. I like the way you state it is not a religion but a faith....I personally say it is my way of life.

This universe is amazing... but we can not really know??
we all yearn to think our own personal view/belief is the one true answer.... I honestly think None of us can give the ultimate fact or truth on this.
I think Ancient civilizations hold the key actually...
and Sumeria I feel has the massive key... and the pyramids.
I did research a while ago on the topic free will
and to my amazement it is possibly not fact...
Now this may upset many but I researched into this for three months and when I did a blog on it, many felt uncomfortable to think it is possible that free will
actually remains an un resolved issue.
Our actions may be a result of influences beyond our control.
I do question free will???
Is it free or predetermined by laws of nature???
It is possible Pauline that the human race had a specific purpose in connection to earth
and the space theory is highly plausible.
What about Love?
Unconditional love.... Love is the purpose that limits fear... just as fear is the purpose that limits love.
Love is within us for many reasons but not always
utilized for the right purpose, it can blind us
to the truth.... it can deceive us from the dark and be made to look good in disguise....

This has been a fascinating debate and thank you for starting off the biggest topic in the universe!

My own experience is that God is not about a belief system, or a philosophy, or a moral code, or even the sense of something spiritual 'out there'. All these things can and do come out of a belief in God but they are not God himself. Christianity is indeed based on what we consider to be historical events which are evidence-based, but it is primarily a love relationship between human beings and God which brings understanding. Argument is fun and interesting and (sometimes!) enlightening but it does not 'explain' God. As somebody has said, God can only be known by love.

Hi there, the alien referred to (in this and elsewhere in the Bible) always means somebody who is not Jewish who has come to live in Israel/Palestine. God's teaching is that the Jews should welcome such people and look after them and not discriminate against them just because they were from a different nation or culture.

It's good teaching for us too!

  I know all the interpretations...we can make of the Bible what we want and turn it to whatever meaning we wish to give...same as any other 'Holy Book'
  
  The Ancient languages that were translated have no bearing on today's world and people and new translations will make of it as they want...The truth will never 'Out'
  
  I post sometimes to make people THINK...and assess their thoughts....not to doubt..but discuss for there is much between all religions and faiths that have simularity and agreement.

Do you not think it's more objective than that? I'm interested in the bible as literature, and I'm curious about the way that people don't treat it as they would any other literature. For example, we don't read Othello (or Homer, who I guess is more contemporary with the Old Testament!) and say that it means something different from what the poet says. For example, we don't say that it's really Iago who killed Desdemona, not Othello, although that's how Shakespeare wrote it. But people treat the Bible like this all the time, and say it means something other than what it says, and I don't understand why, or what is going on in their minds.

    Gilly....I am not a Christian in the true sense as follow Pagan ways...but even I take time to read the 'good book'
    
    Regarding the Bible I feel that people are these days looking further and wanting more and are not content with the 'old religion' Let us be fair.....there are so many translations and they all say something different which causes contraversy.
