I've struggled to comprehend them; isn't gluttony the same as greed?

What is truth? What is the nature of truth? People have talked about 'truth' a lot in this group, but there is no fundamental agreement about what 'truth' is.

Is truth objective or subjective? It seems that a lot of people in the west believe it is subjective, and some of these postings actually say that truth is what means something to the individual concerned, something put together through thinking, experience, instinct and belief. This makes truth subjective.

If truth is subjective then it is private, and not public. It means that my belief is as good as anyone else's.

However, if truth is subjective it means that it is not objective and therefore nobody can point at anything and say 'we should all agree on that because it is true'.

We've sawn off the branch we are sitting on, by believing that your truth is as good as mine.

If there is no objective truth and therefore no 'meta-narrative', nothing that everyone agrees is right or wrong, then we have a society where everyone goes their own way and anything can happen. We can't make rules for behaviour because each person believes something different, and we don't necessarily agree on what is good and bad.

I find I can't subscribe to this concept! What do people think?

Suffering occurs both on the inside of the human being, that is, the suffering of our own emotion and thought patterns – and the direct suffering we may be experiences on the outer level, that is, the circumstances of the life we live in.

Often, as human beings, we experience the two kinds of suffering, as if they were ‘one’, with difficulty distinguishing the differing origination or source of each. An interesting question is this; which type of suffering should we deal with first? Is it possible to alter the mind to accommodate physical pain? And if we experience psychological suffering, is it possible to actually ‘know’ that we are experiencing this kind of suffering?

Buddhism for instance, teaches that all is suffering. Even ordinary life, that we may experience as ‘pleasant’, is viewed as delusionary, as the present moment will change, usually into its opposite. The Buddha says that we suffer by getting what we do not want, and losing what we do want. All is change.

The way this World is going I despair......

Not often I pass on mail such as I am forwarding...and especially as I am not a Christian as hold Pagan belief.

I feel it is disgusting the way Prayer is being omitted from life.....I know we live in a multi cultural World but GOD to whichever faith, by whatever name is still the Higher (outside ourselves) Being.

The LORD'S PRAYRER.... Our father who is in Heaven.......surely this can be adapted to cover ALL FAITH....like the words are true just change the name?

I had a mail through from a friend in America and she informed me that......

Did you know that the ACLU has filed a suit to have all military cross-shaped headstones removed and another suit to end prayer from the military completely? They're making great progress. The Navy Chaplains can no longer mention Jesus' name in prayer thanks to the wretched ACLU and our new administration.

I was told that this is a hoax but it raises important points about religious freedom and observance and other people's rights to avoid it.

I've been asked to do a talk, a workshop, a book signing and.... the opening blessing ceremony.

Now I've done an opening blessing ceremony before, (and a closing one too, come to think of it!) and I'm a great believer that the world would probably be a better place for more blessings. However, I'm aware that not everyone thinks this way. Some people believe that only the clergy can or should bless and that ordinary folk somehow lack the power.

Nor do I believe that blessings are necessarily a religious thing. I think at its simplest, a blessing is simply a way of wishing good things upon another person, place, object or situation. Such wishes can be conveyed from one person to another without any sort of divine intervention whatsoever. In my book, there is nothing to prevent a die-hard atheist from giving a blessing should he/she choose to do so.

But what do members here think? Do you think anyone can give a blessing? Or that anyone should? Have you ever given a blessing? And if not, would you ever consider doing so?

PS : Here's an example of one of my blessings from my blog at the Winter Solstice 2007:

May the moon turn her face to you
And teach you the secrets of her night;
May the sun’s warm embrace with you
Teach you all the secrets of his light.

Starlight, moonbright, Summer’s disc and Winter’s night
Keep you fast and hold you tight.

  Comments
</default:description>

As some of you know, I'm going to be one of the speakers at Witchfest International in Croydon on NOvember 7th this year. In some ways this is a good thing. It is what has driven our species on to use our ingenuity to improve our lot on this planet and even reach out into space. Dolphins have bigger brains but seem to be satisfied with their ocean lives.

Nevertheless, there seems no way to assuage the emptiness. We try everything, more, bigger, better possessions, a new partner, a different career, or the darker side of the craving with substance abuse or destructive kinds of sex.

When I was 10, in 1963, my dad had been promoted and I got everthing I wanted for Christmas. By the end of boxing day I realised that I was no more satisfied than I had been before. Nevertheless, I went through my adolescence sort of believing that, with just a few changes to my situation, the non specific yearning would go away. This was combined with an uneasy suspicion that, whatever I did, the dissatisfaction would still be there.

The sixties were an amazing time to grow up. It seemed like a new beginning, with all the hypocritical garbage of the past being thrown out. Alas, it didn't quite work like that, but it was a good try. To me, religion was a mediaeval remnant, part of the oppressive power structure. It blessed war and put chains on loving. I was impressed by figures like Jesus and had an idea that somewhere, hidden behind the encrustacions of millenia there may be a kernel of truth, but "all in all it was all just bricks in the wall".

I developed into being vaguely pagan. I had a belief in a great spiritual power of some sort, which I felt closer to in the outdoors rather than in religious buildings. I tended to keep this secret. I even developed rituals of my own, but felt a bit daft doing them.

About 4 years ago a combination of circumstances brought me in touch with Subud. This organisation enables people to experience the Latihan, which is Indonesian for exercise. Subud does not advertise, but expects that people will find it when they are ready to do the Latihan.

If I had investigated Subud in the normal way, engaging it with my intellect, I would almost certainly have rejected it. In fact, I was introduced by friends who told me of meeting incredibly wonderful spiritual people there and that it seemed to be something special. This is what I've found to be the case, and after 3 years of regular Latihaning, my emptiness has diminished greatly.

So, what is this Latihan? What is Subud. Well! For a start it's not a religion. People of all faiths and none gather together for the Latihan. It was founded by an Indonesian muslim after he had profound and life changing spiritual experience. This he learned to pass on to others and it has spread World wide. I am dodging round the business of describing a Latihan, because I can't describe it. I could describe what happened in my last Latihan, but the next one will be different, and it is different for each person there. For me it is 30 minutes of unfettered contact with The Great Spirit. My Muslim friends would call it Allah, my Christian friends Almighty God, and yet in Latihan I hear Christians calling out to Allah and Muslims repeating the name of Jesus. My partner, who, since she started Latihaning, has been confirmed in the Church of England, often shouts Adonai and has taken the name Emuna, which is hebrew for Faith.

I suppose the nearest thing to a Latihan that most people know of is Quaker worship, though the Latihan is much more animated. You just stand there and wait for something to happen. Usually it does, and it's very real. Of course, I accept that this could be all psychological suggestion. I might just be kidding myself. I probably won't know for certain until I die, and then I'll only know if it really is real.

Subud is the organisation that facilitates the Latihan. Like all organisations it has a certain amount of baggage. There are things that I don't like about it, but also plenty that I do like. If I had initially approached Subud through its literature, and particularly the many talks given by its founder, Mohammed Subuh Sumowodidjojo , I would almost certainly have been put off. His beliefs were a combination of Islam and traditional Indonesian belief, neither of which appeal to me. However, it is not necessary to accept any of this to benefit from the Latihan. There is no Nicean creed! I am still a Pagan, but you can remove the prefix "vaguely"

So what have you tried along your journey?

In all reality it probably is but how many of us actually look beyond the ideas of another to see where they fit for ourselves?

How many of us question what it is that feels right and that which doesn't seem to fit?

How many of us will live through life with the preconceptions someone else has then giving us?

Thus becoming our preception that we then live by and so becoming a concept and a basis for things in which we see or think through.
Does that give you some food for thought or is it already washing over your head in some confusion?

I see as I write this that there will be some blank faces but also I see that it might trigger something in some of you and it might be what is needed just to help you clear some issue of self being

We all know what preconception is right.. you know ideas and thoughts that we may form about something before we actually experience the matter at hand from what we may be told it will be like.

Preconception is one of the bases of perception, perception is that of how we see things in our life and believe them to be true.
In saying that perception can affect that of our recognition and interpretation.

If you were told the sky was red without ever seeing the sky would you believe it to be red? Then one day you when you happened to see the sky for it to be blue.. would you recognise that to be as it is or something different from what knew the sky to be like ?

I think really what lead me to this somewhat obsure annotation was a discussion based on setting ourselves lessons and challenges before we take to walking our journey on earth. This being a pre-life perception that some have while others don't have.

How do we know that we do infact set our on lessons to learn before we are born? Is it so ? Or is it based on what others have said?

Do we choose our life as we want to experience it and if so when we choose a hard lesson to learn will we be stuck with only hard lessons?

Everyone has they're own ideas on this matter, their own perceptions as you will. Mine being that we do set ourself with many lessons before we make our earth walk and all of them will vary in level and all will have a reason behind them. When we then overcome one of those lessons we then move on to the next on and so forth it continues.

Some have then gone on to say they regret the lessons in which they have set but how can they really know which they set themselves when they are still making that journey through life?

I always look to the prospect that I don't regret things I've done each mistake in life has and will continue to serve a purpose unknowingly so at the time but it will become clearer down the road.

If we do indeed set our tasks and goals before we take our journey then each one is set with a purpose and intent, therefore there is a reason behind each and everyone one of them for the theory is that everything happens for a reason .. yes that's another perception in life but its one that rings true to me, you may see it different that's what makes us special as individuals.

In life we will always make mistakes it's how we learn lessons and hopefully we won't have to make them again. We will fail in areas where we hope to succeed not always just in some occasions this again another lesson. We will suffer setbacks and downfalls;it's life, we all have those issues, some more than others I agree but did you ever think why?

Did you come to the conclusion that life is cruel and that you're not meant to be happy or did you come to the conclusion that you suffer as you do through life so that you can then aid another who may walk a similar path to that of which you had gone through?

Thus helping them not to suffer the same way in which you did the pain in which we go through in life I see now as being a good thing so to that person who helped me to see that way I owe you big time. But one thing we must remember and take into account is that how a person looks at the experience they have gone through affects how much pain they will feel so therefeor not everyone will feel it to the same level. Not all situations will be the same.

I can hear the question now.If they don't suffer the same way we are then are they not learning their own lesson?

A good question to ask. Everyone will see it in their own way but my answer is my belief being they do learn their own lesson but they will learn it with compassion and comfort, with the support and help from those of you who have been in "those shoes" who in return will have had some help along the way in which to keep them going.

Their lessons may not be the same as yours but they still go through the same pain and the same struggles as you will. Life isn't about being easy or hard. Life is just that Life. It's an experience not to be missed or cast aside and given up so easily. It's filled with trials and tests with love and adoration; concepts filled with every emotion and every word under the sun and stars.

No matter if it's good or bad you will still gain a new outlook at the end of the tunnel because that is how it is perceived to be right .. I say yes but some will disagree and that is good to allow your thoughts to come through and break the moulds.

What you see as being easy will be hard to someone else and what you see as being hard will in return be easy to someone else.
It's all different and the reason it is so is because where is the fun in everyone going through the same challenges thinking the same things living the same lives seeing things the exact same?
It really does pay to be an individual.

Some will now be saying but I would never ask for any lessons to be taught the way in which they have .. How would you really know how you asked for them, we may not set them to work out a set way just for the lesson behind it that we ask for. We may not ask for things that have happened but they did happen for reasons that may be unknown to us its one of many complex things within that web of life and living.

I will leave you on that note with the hopes that some of you may be left thinking some things over and seeing with a new light your choice. What I have written here for you is only my thoughts and yes perceptions on what I feel to be right for my thinking. Your ideas and concepts will surely differ from mine and that is the fun side of life and hopefully you may share some of them with us all.

HOW IS THIS QUESTION GOING TO BE RECIEVED?

IT IS MORE THAN CONTRITE....MORE THAN MIND BLOWING AND JUST ABOUT TO HAVE MY HEAD BITTEN OFF BY ALL IN BLOGLAND.

WAS GOD A SPACEMAN?

With all Religions, beliefs we all hold our OWN GOD...no matter what his name..he is basically HOLY above all others..

Come on....WE ARE NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL....there has to be ANOTHER HIGHER THAN OURSELVES even be it a diety to whom we look to, uphold and respect.

I have for years wanted to pose this question to people, and feel that now I am among friends whom will take this as a QUESTION.

The Pyramids.....How were they formed? Who gave the technology? in either Egypt or Peru.
This is a question unanswerable for thousands of years.

WHY.....LOOK AT PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD....WHY DO THEY LOOK DIFFERENT?
Nordic are Blonde.....African are dark skinned....Asian have (sorry) slit eyes...

YES....hereditory, evoltutionary....but....if we did evolve from the same gendre..WHY?

Monkeys, Apes, preportedly our ancestors do not have these traits!!

There is much to be answered about the UNIVERSE we live in....

Even today they say WATER ON THE MOON!!!

But I have it in my brain.....the Moon is HOLLOW.....

Astronomy data indicates that the internal regions of the Moon are less dense than the outer, giving rise to the inevitable but outrageous speculation that it could be hollow.

It does not orbit the Earth as a normal moon but stays 'same side on' WHY?

So let us now deviate from science....and go back to Biblical...

Where did we come from?

It really is IMPOSSIBLE that we evolved from apes....if we did....why are apes still about?...WHY ARE THEY NOT BLONDE, DARK AND HAVE 'SLANTING EYES'....Monkeys/Apes...do not live in NORTHERN REGIONS soooo ok, we migrated?

THE BURNING BUSH ....

Well we all are aware that ANY version of the Bible is subject to mis-interpretation through translation over the years and 'lost' language.

BURNING BUSH....could that mean a plant? or a mountain? Could it be a volcano or an ACTUAL FIRE OF VEGETATION?...Could it be that was combustion (as we know today). A question we can not answer.

TEN COMMANDEMENTS.....

Wow another issue.....

I am sure you all know them...and even given your diverse religions are a CODE you live with.

THESE WERE CARVED IN STONE....

In stone they should always be as we are NOT A DIETY TO OURSELVES.

But it is a thought....HOW WAS THIS CARVED INTO STONE...WAS IT LASER?

We can all interpret the Bible or whatever Holy Book we cherish....but if you LOOK...there are many discrepancies within itself.....or it's teachings....THAT IS DUE I BELIEVE TO TRANSLATION.

EXODUS
33:9
When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the door of the tent, and the LORD would speak with Moses.

33:10
And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the door of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, every man at his tent door.

WHAT IS THE PILLAR OF CLOUD?

Matthew 22:36-40 Jesus refers to the Golden Rule as the greatest commandment

The Golden Rule is present in many world religions, many predating Christianity. The ancient Greek philosopher Pittacus (640-568 BC) mentions it, Buddhism, which started in the Indian subcontinent around 400BC, has it as a major principle.

See NO MATTER WHAT CREED OR RELIGION YOU HOLD....THERE ARE RULES....ALL OF WHICH WE OBEY.

P xxxx

However for the past few years I have known, been taught by mediums and clairvoyants to develop my own spiritual gifts. My aim being to be part of a growing number who actively and consciously work for spirit.

Now I know, that each and everyone of us works for spirit in unique ways. Whether it's helping someone with bags across the road, or giving a message on the podium or giving 'healing' in it's various forms.

Whichever your forte of spiritual awareness/work you are working for spirit. Even those that don't believe... in small actions, believe me you really are.

I suffered a loss many years ago, which had a profound effect on me. I look back on that person (me) just before the event and realise how lost I was. How much I was unaware. Once the initial hurt and grief was gone, I started on a search, to find out, if there is something out there, was my loved one ok? were they being looked after ok?

From my very first meditation, I made contact with the other side. Now for those of you who don't understand what I mean by that. I bought a book, followed the instructions, closed my eyes and there were images being played out which had no relation to what i was thinking of AT all. I was slightly surprised let me tell you!!

I understand that to some it's not as easy as that, some do have to work hard to make contact and that is normal. My case was of one very instant nanna wanting to make contact and she was very impatient!

Quickly I realised that these images when broken down made sense. The imagery (or symbolism) could be deciphered. A message gleaned from the imagery.

I started doing this more and found an awareness group which I strongly suggest that you do if your interested in developing, and everyone can in their own way. These can be found at the local spiritualist church.

First time in spiritualist church, week after week, messages from my great nanna and others, so much tears, healing and happiness came from my family, through the medium to us it was unreal.

It changed my life forever in a good way!

The otherside worked hard to prove it wasn't us, the information wasn't been read from our aura/body language, it was in actual fact them who was talking. Information came through that no one knew (alive) a child that was never talked about. A name we didn't know. I did research after the reading and confirmed of existence and death, this is just one example, I have plenty more.

So I understand people wanting proof, the otherside do also. My thought is keep an open mind and heart, but question and ask for confirmation from the otherside.

I do understand that some of you may not have had satistfactory readings from mediums/clairvoyants. I do believe, the core facts that spirit give are correct, it's the phone (medium/clairvoyant) that can get things wrong.

However, I would like to say and this is advice from long standing and respected mediums/clairvoyants, messages are always filled with love, healing, confirmation, proof of existence after death, there may be warnings, but no bad information comes through. I would question the validity of anyone who has had such a negative message - or the validity of the medium who gave it.

They aren't allowed to live our lives for us - we have free will, this is our life!

Symbolism is also a difficult thing, say for instance my definition of a clock could be time - to another it could be impatience?? just as an example... sometimes the phone (medium/clairvoyant) gets it wrong, it's as simple as that!

My advice listen to the imagery after all it is your family/friends talking to you

So you maybe not think that there is any of that going today.

Well my view is that it is always happening and the most well known miracle going on today with out and thought given is the creation of life SURELY someone being born is as big if not WAY bigger than a single man being cured.
Another point what about a 16year old boy at a public school keeping off drugs and get A* at GCSE or a old person living in a run down house surouned by so called chavs and then acualy standing up to them is a feat of strength i think which may have some bearing in the world of miracles.

Sorry if i go off a bit though this but try stay with me,
I would also like to mention the fact that I do not think that a Jesus in todays world would have the same inpacted, because has we are bought up people think that we are here by science so we would always try and find away of disproving any of the miracles that god/jesus is beforming on this earth?

Of topic

I have been away for awhile trying to keep up at school but i am always finding that it is not very usfull it has become a extra that is not really needed. Now ofcourse everybody hated school but i really just can't see how to positives are that great so i would just like to tell you that right now i am wright a little essay all about this issue and how i think the world could work out better using a different system.

Please comment i always love reading. Thanks again Mischeifer (James Tumber)

But Jesus didn’t have good enough means to distribute his teachings, prove his divinity without doubt, most of all show that to defend or distribute his belief (better: his truth) by force is completely contradictory to his intention.

It's a pity that too many men that acted in his name were nothing less than lost souls, demanding subservience of all others, for their own benefit.

I wondered for a long time how divine truth, divinity, can be spread unequivocally. It's not done by miracles that will always be claimed as tricks.

All men must show by their attitude, their daily life, that it is worthwhile to lead a life adhering to certain principles. The belief must prove itself. And during the lifetime of a divine personality his example must communicate to as many people as possible.

Then a new species is born, the divine community, that reproduce their belief with unalterable genes, prove their value like any other species by their way of life, be a living example of the truth, of their spirituality; multiply because it proves more viable than the other species.

That is the Messiah. The starting point being a divine figure, like Sai Baba, but the true Messiah is the new “species” that proves itself every day.

At present the followers of Sai Baba, his devotees number perhaps one, perhaps several millions. I don’t know. They live distributed all over the world.
I wonder if the new Messiah would be born when all devotees would gather at one place, forming a new “state”, living their example for the world: The Messiah, the people of God.

These are a few thoughts on how to reach the Messianic Age and avoid the mistakes of the past. What do you think?

Do you think that Jesus was effective?

Usually my dreams are nightmares but this was a confection .... it was in colour, and I found myself wandering in a garden. There was a laser display which showed a beautiful picture in the sky ... as I stood marvelling at it a man appeared beside me.
'I can see you are impressed' he said. I agreed that I was. 'Thought so - this tells me that you are sensitive and creative. Therefore I am offering you the job of creative director at my Special School for Gifted Children' ..... I awoke laughing. Why ever did I dream that? It was taken as gospel and used to torment a music teacher of my acquaintance.
Nothing changes, teachers are still under the hot lights.
There are calls for teachers to be given an M.O.T test - when will it be fitted in I wonder? Teachers are already monitored by Headteachers, Heads of Departments, Governors, parents and - let's not forget the pupils who cheerfully challenge and criticise any possible mistake or lapse.
I think it is time to celebrate our teachers - oh I am not denying weaknesses, as with the NHS the organization is nationwide and vast and there must be flaws. But just then can we not look at the good things?
I will never forget the patient teacher who taught me the value and importance of saying sorry - and meaning it. Or the teacher who taught me to cook and sew though she did not live to see her worst pupil flower!! Then there were two teachers, one who taught me to evaluate political evidence, another who taught me how to realise my mistakes and ushered me into University.
Teachers like this are still with us, realistic but endlessly patient. teaching not just facts but also values. Teachers who stay after school and run clubs ..
Can we stop swinging the hammer and throw flowers instead?

Families are now strewn around the world......so if I departed this World tomorrow...who would come? The number is possible less than all the fingers on my hands.....

LOADS OF E-MAILS to my daughter....some cards of remembrance and sympathy...but WHO WOULD ACTUALLY BE THERE?

No.....this is NOT A SYMPATHY POST...but one to make you all think about your life and what you have achieved.

Most of the information we have about Atlantis comes from the ancient greek philosopher 'Plato'
He says that Atlantis lay west of the pillars of Hercules (rock formation at the Straits
of Gibraltar) in the Atlantic ocean.

On this huge island was a great and wonderful empire ~
"Where brave and virtous people lived in a kind of paradise"
It has even been expressed that they were ethereal, without physical form
as we understand it, and were androgynous, therefore complete in themselves
reproducing by conscious will and energy transference.
They longed to know what it was like to go deeper into matter with a physical body
Those brave ones, who were to take male and female form, were the earliest Atlanteans.
An extrordinary new divine quest was underway... The eternal longing of every human
to find his or her half began.
Earth was unique. it was the only place in the universe where source was conducting
this particular trial; the one location where spirits could incarnate in a physical body
to experience all the senses.

But this peaceful existence came to an end when the people of Atlantis began to love power
more then they loved gods.
They waged war against the rest of the world, but were ultimately defeated by the wise
and moral Athenians.
Earthquakes sunk Atlantis into the sea.....

There is no proof that Atlantis ever existed, many people believe Atlantis was just a legend
told by Plato to praise the values Athenians held dear.
But others believe that the storied island is based on fact.
Some even express:
This continent was the subject of a divine experiment to see if people could live
in a physical body and still keep their connection with all that is known as the creator
God or source
Earth was always a special place in balancing the energy of our universe

It is said:
Almost every one on earth has had an incarnation in Atlantis,
where great spiritual and technological knowledge was amassed beyond anything we
can currently comprehend.
It is now time for the ancient wisdom to be brought forward so that another
golden age can develop.

Was this the original paradise??????

I wonder what book you will say is important to you and why.

Out of the many books that I have read I will pick a book called 'Choosing, not Losing' by Dorothy Rowe.

She is a psychologist who states that getting depressed is not something that happens to us. It is just a method of coping with life that we can choose to change.

So will your choice be non-fiction too?

I'm agog to find out!!!
